  • PIPEDA: The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act
  • PHIPA: Personal Health Information Protection Act
Can I use insurance to cover session costs?

Numerous extended benefits plans include coverage for sessions with a social worker. I recommend reviewing your benefits prior to scheduling an initial session, so you’re informed about the extent of coverage and whether it applies to my qualifications (Master of Social Work, Registered Social Worker). While we don’t offer direct insurance billing currently, you’ll receive a payment confirmation and receipt after the session. You can then submit the receipt for reimbursement through your insurance provider.

How does payment work?

Sessions must be paid in full immediately after the session ends.

We currently do not offer direct billing to insurance companies. We gladly accept e-transfers and credit card payments via the Jane platform. Following your session, you’ll receive an invoice. Upon payment processing, a receipt will be issued for your records, which you can then submit to your insurance provider.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations require a 24-hour notice. Late cancellations or no shows are subject to the full charge of the session.

Can I do my sessions anywhere I want since it is virtual?

I solely provide virtual sessions and can only accommodate clients within the province of British Columbia, where I am registered. Ensuring your safety, privacy, and confidentiality is a priority for me. If I notice an unfamiliar background, I might inquire to ensure you are in an appropriate environment for the session.

How do I know if therapy is for me?

Therapy presents a valuable resource for everyone. It provides a dedicated environment to explore your experiences, emotions, thoughts, worries, and feelings alongside an objective third party. Unlike conversations with friends, therapy is unbiased and nonjudgmental support, offering fresh insights and diverse perspectives.

Beyond the common belief that therapy is only necessary after major events or emotional turmoil, it’s also a powerful tool for enhancing resilience during positive phases. By embracing moments of positivity, you equip yourself with skills to navigate tougher times ahead.

What if I cannot afford your rate? Do you offer sliding scale?

Yes, I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots in my schedule. If you do not think you can afford my full fee, please reach out without hesitation.

In the event that I’m unable to accommodate you with a sliding scale spot, I’d gladly provide referrals to trusted clinicians in the area.

What is the first session like?

In my role as a Therapist, I approach our interactions collaboratively, without judgment, and in a way that’s easy to connect with. As we begin, I’ll ask you a series of questions in our initial sessions to better understand your life journey. My commitment is to listen attentively and without bias. Together, we’ll establish therapy goals that reflect your aspirations.

Throughout our therapeutic journey, you’ll have the space to express yourself, gain new perspectives, challenge your thoughts, receive constructive feedback, and develop and practice positive coping skills. Therapy can be both challenging and enjoyable, sometimes involving deep work and at other times, moments of laughter. In both scenarios, I stand by your side, providing unwavering support to help you attain the change and personal growth you seek.

How do I get the most out of therapy?
  • Frequent and consistent appointments
  • Active participation
  • Keep a journal to jot down things that happened, bothered you or moments of heavy emotions to address in therapy
  • Journal after session your main takeaways so that you can apply them to your week ahead
  • Give yourself time before and after the session to wind down. This will allow you some reflections before and after session and ensure you are fully present in session
How often will we meet?

For optimal results from therapy, I suggest maintaining regular sessions. For new clients, I recommend starting with weekly sessions for a minimum of 4 weeks. This approach establishes a solid foundation. If this isn’t viable for you, we can collaboratively devise an alternative plan.

It’s possible that I’ll propose adjusting the session frequency to align more closely with your requirements. Whether increasing or decreasing sessions, my goal is to tailor the experience to best suit your needs.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

The duration of your therapy journey can vary based on your unique circumstances and goals. Some clients find significant progress in a few months, while others may choose to engage in longer-term therapy to address deeper issues or continue personal growth. Together, we’ll regularly assess your progress and collaborate on determining the most appropriate timeline for your therapy experience. Your comfort, progress, and well-being are central to the duration of our therapeutic relationship.

What if there is something I do not want to discuss?

Your comfort and autonomy are important in therapy, and it’s completely okay if there’s a topic you’re not ready to discuss. You’re in control of what you share, and we’ll work at a pace that feels right for you. If there’s something you’re hesitant to talk about, we can explore those feelings and reasons together. Sometimes, discussing challenging subjects can lead to deeper insights and growth, but ultimately, the choice is yours. We’ll always respect your boundaries and focus on creating a safe and supportive environment for your therapeutic journey.
